*Just saw this again and chuckled. (It was originally posted on 2/8/07.) Thought maybe you would enjoy the story again so I've bumped it.*
When you were little did you ever play "Uncle"? You know, the game where someone would do something to you until you absolutely couldn't stand it for one more second and you had to scream "UNCLE" to be spared anymore pain, humility, what have you??? My question is this...
DO YOU THINK GOD RESPONDS TO "UNCLE!!!"?
YESTERDAY- I shared with you the story of my daughter falling to sleep in front of the repaired heater vent so she could be near some heat in our home proving how I, on occasion, have poor parenting skills... TODAY is another one of those days specifically designed to make me look like a BAD MOTHER.
Within a matter of minutes- K-girl displayed just how poor a parent I can be. My child, my dear... sweet... young... beautiful child, CUT HER HAIR!!! And not just a strand, or a section... NO!!!

SHE CUT ALL OF THE HAIR ON THE TOP AND SIDES OF HER HEAD!!!
My daughter, who has NEVER had a hair cut, trim, or well to be honest... a wisp of hair removed from her eyes... gave herself a - a - a.... MULLET!!! (There, I said it.)
Here's the full story.
We had been out all morning. Upon returning the kids said they wanted to play in their room... and/or color at the table. As I've said before- I'm a Homeschooling, Stay at Home Mom. The kids and I are here in the house for the majority of the day... daily. They know what they can and can not do and should they do the unthinkable- whatever that may be- it can usually be cleaned up in 30 minutes or less. I had NO WARNING that this could and or would happen. They were all off in their own directions, playing. Then I heard Brenden come out of the bathroom and say, "K-girl, did you cut your own hair? " I was in the living room. She was just near me. I didn't notice anything. So I didn't think twice about Brenden's statement until he started down the steps saying in a deep voice... "Mooooooooommmmmmm....... " (You know, the tone that indicates there's a big big problem but fortunately for the one speaking... it's not with them???) I knew there was validity to his statement from his tone (and the fact that as fast as he was traveling DOWN the steps... she was high tailing it UP the steps) so I called out, "K-Girl... come here."
The panic was immediate. She cut it all right. I ran from the living room where I first saw her hair... to the bathroom... where I saw the REST of her hair laying on the bathroom floor. The pieces were over 6 inches long. A pile of her pristine, untouched, curly locks of gold on my dirty bathroom floor?????
I cried. And then cried some more. At one point she asked me if I was mad and I said, "No honey. Not mad. Sad. " and she started crying too. I can't lie. We mourned the loss of K-Girl's hair. I know there are things FAR MORE TRAGIC and on a scale of all things devastating... this doesn't even rank BUT to me- I needed to cry about it.
Once things settled down here we sat at the table and colored and K-girl, as innocent as anything I've ever seen, turned to me and the boys and said, "Guess who I look like?" In light of present circumstances I couldn't think at all so Beetle responded. "Who?" To which my daughter said sweetly, "Cousin Gladys." (For those that don't know, my niece Gladys is still undergoing Chemo treatment for Acute Myelogenous(sp) Leukemia and therefore only has sprouts of hair on her head.)
And that's when I packed up my brood of children and headed to the local Gap Kids, Claires, Limited Too, and Target for any headband that would help to conceal K-girl's new hair style.
We will let this pass as though it's not nearly as sad, and/or as funny, as it is... and soon enough it will become an extremely funny memory.
I will leave you all with this personal note however...
God, if this so moves you....

AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
I cried. And then cried some more. At one point she asked me if I was mad and I said, "No honey. Not mad. Sad. " and she started crying too. I can't lie. We mourned the loss of K-Girl's hair. I've opted not to cut the back of her hair despite the fact that I know it contributes to a more noticeable mullet-look. I will do what I can to hide the top and sides of her head while her hair grows in. (That will be a serious undertaking I know.) But I am now armed with an arsenal of colorful headbands, scarves, and hats for her to select from daily.
My dear sweet daughter doesn't know the difference between her hair this morning and her hair this evening. Actually, if anything she probably thinks she can cut some more tomorrow and she'll get another SHOPPING TRIP to her favorite store, Claires. We will let this pass as though it's not nearly as sad, and/or as funny, as it is... and soon enough it will become an extremely funny memory.
I will leave you all with this personal note however...

CAROLEEEE!!! Thanks for logging on. I knew you'd appreciate the blog as we are young mothers of multiple children. The stories are never ending. Thanks for reading friend.
Thanks chell since I missed it the first time around...makes me glad I have a boy whose hair is already short...
Thanks so much too for your playlist...it blesses me so much! love you!
Chelle,
I hope now that many months have passed the mullet look is gone! She is waaaaaay too cute to be sporting a mullet!
And as for Save Lori's House...I'm sorry it is making you think twice about blogging.
I think, if anything, it should make you want to blog more...it amazes me how quickly prayer requests, info on a certain topic, etc. can spread on the internet.
So blog more! :)
Prayers and blessings,
Beth
It's great to hear from you again. I've been thinking about you and wondering how you are doing.
Love this story - I bet you can laugh more about it now, than you did when it happened!
I bet she looks adorable today, and this is just a funny memory to add to stories about her when she grows up.
You made BOTH Paul and I laugh tonight with this one. There is just something about a Mullet that can bring a chuckle to anyone over the age of thirty five.
Love you friend!
Joanne
I read your blog with tears flowing down my face at the thankfulness that Emma is not yet big enough to do this, nor have hair to do it to. Yet when I read her comment of looking like Cousin Gladys my heart sang, wept, and over rejoiced in God's sense of humor...my Jordyn died from AML leukemia so the fact that your little girl is proud to look like her cousin who's fighting so hard against this disease brings my heart a strange sense of joy.
I pray her hair grows in quickly, and that this is one of those things that you can look back and laugh at, maybe as hard as I did tonight. My heart needed this.
God Bless
Oh WOW! That is some Doo! Oh WOW, I think Bekah and I would have had a cry fest too! What must go through those little minds!
Oh dear! I did this as a child as well. I was soooo proud of myself for cutting my own hair until I walked down stairs and saw my mom's reaction. We both cried. It did grow back but I'm sure it was a "uncle" day for my mom as well.
