Before Pictures...

Hi friends. I hope everyone had a great weekend. I spent a good part of it at Starbucks but I am off today and am sinking my teeth into the dining room remodel. It's exciting and overwhelming at the same time.

The current "hold up" is paint selection. I want good paint. I have heard horror stories of painting walls red with poor paint. Any recommendations? It's no easy task to pick the shade of red either. In the picture (of the dining room I'm modeling mine after...) the paint color was called "Arts and Crafts Red"... can't seem to find that anywhere. So- I may have selected "Duke Red"... we'll see. I want to check Sherwin Williams today and if there is one local- Benjamin Moore.

Now- onto the nitty gritty of the project. The base from which I begin. Here are the BEFORE pictures of the dining room. (I can't believe I'm showing anyone these let alone EVERYONE...) I think I told you the floors under the area rugs were all unfinished when we bought the house... so we just replaced area rugs. I rag rolled the dining room when we moved in so it's textured which I think will add to the overall finish of the walls in the end. The baseboards are nearly 8 inches high. (Unreal huh??) And the window trim is 4 1/4 inches wide.

It will all be stunning when it's done... BUT today- this is what we have to work with....

I think this will be the focus of my blogs for the next few weeks... so if you aren't into home remodel- might want to give me a month and check back when I return to frivolous blog topics like the one I have pending-

WHAT'S UP WITH
PARENTS TAKING THEIR WIDE AWAKE CHILDREN TO WALMART TO GROCERY SHOP AT MIDNIGHT??? Oh yes, I'll tackle that when I get a second.

We used Sherwin Williams Barn Red..Martha Steward paint, I think. Worked fine, other than the painters we hired being color blind and having to return to fix their errors. (And the one was, in all seriousness, color blind. At least that is what he told me). Have fun with your projects!!!

My in-laws used Ralph Lauren paint and I wish I could remember what shade of red it was. But it was gorgeous and they only used one coat. They did use the pink primer first. Oh, it can be found at Home Depot.

Ours is a wonderful red...I'd have to go look for the can. Its from Lowes. I know you are supposed to use gray primer for best results!!
